In other crazy news, George and Cindy pulled up in their driveway today, I think returning from church and George got into an altercation w/some of the protesters. Supposedly, he approached them-- with a hammer in his hand-- and shoved a man and an elderly woman before his son Lee came and removed the hammer from his hand and defused the situation. Yikes. I'm sure that he was just bringing that hammer in from his car and had temporarily taken leave of his senses but to shove people especially a woman!! That's just unacceptable. I completely disagree w/those protesters and can't imagine how that helps the situation or makes them feel better but George seems to have anger management issues and I hope he's able to step back.

I cannot even begin to fathom what that family is going through right now. I am still holding onto my belief that they are just so deep in denial that they can't see the truth quite yet. Many are speculating on some involvement in the deed or at least in the cover-up with Cindy and George's involvement but I just can't believe that. I think that it was ill advised to wash clothes and remove evidence from the car but I also have to put some blame on the police who left the car in their custody. I think they have put blinders on and can only zero in on the possibility that their granddaughter is alive and therefore have to believe Casey and all of her completely unbelievable lies.

Its interesting to me that Casey changed her story to --the kidnapping occurring at Jay Blanchard Park w/Zanny the nanny and her sister Sam w/her toddlers in tow in a silver Ford whatever having jumped her and stolen Caylee giving her a script to follow for 30 days. I mean you really have to be drinking the kook-aid to believe this story. To me this sounds like a concoction from Casey- after having had LOTS of time to FIX her story while sitting in jail. So in order to cover up for her ridiculous lies including ...letting LE (law enforcement) take her all the way up and into Universal Studios where she strode purposefully down the hall towards "her office" before finally stopping and admitting- I lied- I don't work here. So, in order to cover up for all of those lies she just merely concocts another character -Samantha and says that she and Zanny told her to tell all of those outrageous lies- giving her a script to follow. Crazy much?

In other interesting news that has jaws flapping and people wildly speculating-- Lee Anthony left the house WITH POLICE today. Now, who knows why, but the speculation is raging and ranging from it having to do w/some type of fraud in the raising and spending of money people have donated to the family's paypal account --or their "find Caylee" account --to it being related to the hammer confrontation on the Anthony's lawn today, which Lee helped break up.

So, who knows what the hell is going on?  I'm trying to get back to life and work as usual and stop obsessing about this case. Volunteered at a really great function tonight where we helped 140 Title 1 elementary school children shop at JC Penney for $130 worth of back to school clothes. That was so much fun!!  So, again, let's all pray for Caylee and visualize her being found!

Oh, forgot to mention the 20/20 show-- it was really well done I thought and also quite brief. I wonder if they became intimidated from all of the negative backlash?  I'm sure they paid the Anthony family some money -NOT for the interview, mind you, bc that would be unseemly, but for licensing the photo/video. In any case, if the Anthony's thought that was going to be a favorable piece...they were sadly mistaken. Its hard, I guess, to portray Casey and her actions in a favorable light- I would LOVE to hear how they would try. That would be the best spin job ever. Pray for Caylee!

For the second time in as many weeks, Casey Anthony walks out of an Orange County Florida jail under a hail of spectators, cameras, microphones, reporters, and questions.  Once again she had a previously paid bond amount of $500,000 paid for her release.  Last time it was bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, but this time it is unknown who was responsible for her release.

Of course this brings up many feelings and questions for a lot of different people.  Some believe that she still should remain in jail, some believe that she should face murder charges, some say that she needs to give up the location and the details on what happen to her daughter, three-year-old Caylee Anthony.

But here we are, Casey back out and back at home with her parents and her lawyer Jose Baez.  I think we can rest assure the parents of Casey, George and Cindy Anthony, were not the ones who paid the bond, they had trouble the first time around and weren't able to get the amount.  For the other charges that law enforcement had on Casey, the bond on those charges have already been paid, with the most current one being paid through a local bail bond agency.  After a call to that company, they of course would not say who it was that contracted them.  Either way, those amounts were small patatoes.  I even tossed around the idea of paying that just for giggles, but she was supposed to remain in jail until the $500,000 was paid.  So who paid it?  An organization representing Casey lawyer Jose Baez known as Press Corps media released the following statement on his behalf, "The individual posting the bond prefers to remain anonymous, and is doing it because of the belief that Ms.  Anthony's constitutional rights have been grossly violated." 

So who was the anonymous donor?  Was it Nancy Grace?  As much attention her show has been giving Casey, Cindy, George and Lee, would it be unexpected for her show to pay $500,000 in order to get Casey to agree to an exclusive interview?  Well apparently ABC News' 20/20 are denying reports that they offered up the money for an exclusive interview.  Some how they ended up with exclusive home video though.  Lets throw some more names in the hat too.  Who can benefit from having Casey out?  The alleged kidnappers?  Bounty Hunter Leonard Padilla?  Dr. Phil?  John McCain?  We may never know.

Not for nothin', but there's the question out there, why is Casey out of jail again?  The real question should be, why can't the Orange County Sheriffs Office get the proper evidence to keep her in jail?  Is it because they don't have it or can't get it?  To me, if its taking them this long to get evidence to charge her with some type of homicide then it might not happen.

ABC news 20/20 is doing a story on Caylee Anthony tonight and interviewing the family including Casey.  ABC has said that it is their policy not to pay for interviews but I think they are getting around that by paying to “license” the use of family photos and video.  Expert crime writer, David Lohr, for Investigation Discovery Channel is reporting here:

I’ve written the publicist for 20/20, Alyssa Apple, to ask if this is true (no reply so far) and if so, is ABC making sure the money will be used ONLY for search efforts and not in the defense of the prime suspect?  At the very least ABC should make a matching donation to texasequusearch.org <-- those people have spent over $30,000 searching for Caylee.  I know there are lots of people prepared to start a tremendous campaign against ABC, Disney and their advertisers.  Some websites are getting thousands of visits a day- all people who are desperately sad about Caylee and eager to join in boycott or protests.  I know that it will be an incredible ratings coup- I hope some of that money will go to a good cause. 

If not, that certainly seems like blood money.  Why pay money to the prime suspect in the child’s disappearance when she has deliberately mislead police, continually lied and done nothing to help find her daughter?  I also wrote in w/some questions regarding Zanny(Xanax) the nanny theory.  I'll be interested to see if they ask questions about Casey's possible drug use or the possibility of drugging the child. Was it AIM Productions which put up the funds to get Casey out of jail again?  It would certainly seem so.  Bounty Hunter Leonard Padilla stated that he received a phone call from the Nashville area code, asking if he thought Casey was a flight risk, but he did not get a name.   It has also been revealed that Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, has hired a Public Relations firm out of Nashville.  It is unknown what, if, any relationship may exist between the production company and the PR firm.

Casey was released (again) at around 10:00 a.m. today.

I'm gonna cut to the chase and talk about my favorite track on this album. Track four "Inexhaustible" touches on the complexity of the man Jesus and how there are some Christians out there who think they have God all figured out. This track is for all those people who think they've got God down. Aside from the awesome subject on this track the beat tied in with the samples is addictive. I find myself listening to it over and over again.

I strongly recommend you go out and buy this album .. put it in your car and on your ipod. 20/20 is like a great sermon you can listen to over and over again and get something new from God every time.

2. Interaksi Manusia-Komputer (IMK) pada Perkembangan Teknologi Komputer
Pertumbuhan teknologi komputer tidak boleh memiliki pengaruh negatif terhadap nilai dasar manusia (Universitas Nottingham). Kemajuan antarmuka dan teknik lain dari pengontrolan komputer (seperti dengan menggunakan joystick dan fingertip) mendukung peran keyboard dan mouse tradisional.
IMK harus dipastikan bahwa kita (manusia) yang tetap memegang kunci dalam membuat keputusan. Maka dari itu, “Being Human” menjadi usulan bagi IMK di tahun 2020. Hal ini dilaporkan secara detil di konferensi pada Maret 2007, tentang penemuan Microsoft, yang dihadiri oleh ahli-ahli IMK dari seluruh dunia. Pada 2020, kita masih dapat membaca koran ataupun majalah, tetapi konten dari koran atau majalah tersebut akan didistribusikan secara digital dan ditampilkan melalui layar yang dapat dilipat dan dapat ditaruh di saku Anda; atau bahkan pakaian kita dapat menunjukkan diagnosa kesehatan kita.
Namun, penting sekali dimana kita harus mengkombinasikan inovasi dengan pemahaman tentang pengaruhnya terhadap manusia. Tanpa pengawasan dan penilaian yang benar, maka akan terjadi kemungkinan bahwa manusia-individual ataupun kolektif-tidak dikontrol oleh diri kita sendiri ataupun orang di sekitar kita.
Hal ini dapat menyebabkan komputer bertabrakan dengan nilai dasar manusia dan konsep manusia seperti wilayah pribadi, masyarakat, identitas, kebebasan, persepsi, kecerdasan, dan privasi. Abigail Sellen, peneliti senior di Microsoft Corp mengatakan bahwa komputer telah membentuk banyak aspek di dunia modern dimana kita ingin menelusuri kemunculan teknologi saat ini yang mungkin membentuk kehidupan kita di 2020.
Selain itu, dia mengatakan bahwa komputasi memiliki potensi untuk meningkatkan kehidupan jutaan manusia di dunia. Dia percaya jika teknologi benar-benar membawa keuntungan untuk umat manusia, maka nilai manusia dan pengaruh teknologi harus dipertimbangkan segera pada proses desain teknologi. Maka, rekomendasi untuk Microsoft Corp adalah dengan IMK 2020 dapat mendesain dan mendukung nilai manusia, tidak tergantung pada cara yang bernilai ekonomi untuk mendapatkan nilai tersebut.
Microsoft telah memperhatikan masa depan IMK dan interface grafis berulang-ulang pada Windows OS, sampai 2020. Dijadwalkan tersedia pada 2010, Windows 7 (versi setelah Windows Vista) menuju ke peningkatan peran, dalam pandangan perusahaan Redmond, yaitu natural user interface pada level desktop, notebook, tabletop surface computer, tablet PC, dll. Tanpa ragu-ragu, GUI yang ditawarkan komputer dan OS sekarang tidak akan terpakai lagi di tahun 2020.
Perhatian telah beralih pada multi-touch, gerakan, pengenalan objek, speech dan bahkan antarmuka otak-komputer. Semua itu dipayungi oleh natural user interfaces, suatu bagian yang menjadi fokus Bill Gates.

3. “Being Human”, IMK Tahun 2020
Komputer telah mengubah hidup manusia. Komputer mempengaruhi bagaimana kita mengerjakan aktivitas yang paling membosankan, seperti membeli makanan, dan membayar tagihan. Komputer juga dapat memberikan pengalaman baru, misalnya, membolehkan kita berkomunikasi dengan orang lain melalui dunia virtual, dari bagian bumi manapun.
Contoh lain adalah fotografi, dari yang menggunakan kamera berbasis kimia sampai digital. Dengan kamera digital, user masih tetap dapat “point dan shoot” dengan cara yang hampir sama dengan kamera berbasis kimia.
GUI telah mendominasi cara berinteraksi dengan komputer selama lebih dari 20 tahun. Banyak kesalahan manusia yang dapat ditangani, seperti kesalahan menulis ‘teh’ maka oleh spell checker akan diperbaiki menjadi ‘the’, kesalahan menghapus maka dapat di-undo.
Tetapi ternyata hal tersebut kurang sempurna. Hal ini disebabkan kebanyakan di antara kita menderita sakit punggung dan beberapa di antara kita terkadang memukul tombol dan menekan mouse selama berjam-jam. Para peneliti mengetahui bahwa pointing, clicking, dan dragging bukan bentuk interaksi yang ideal bagi banyak task. Contohnya adalah ketika kita ingin menggambar bunga atau menuliskan nama dengan menggunakan mouse.
Beberapa tahun terakhir, teknik input yang baru telah dibangun. Teknik ini lebih kaya dan tidak rentan terhadap kelemahan interaksi keyboard dan mouse. Contohnya adalah sistem pengenalan suara yang mendukung interaksi “alami”, memungkinkan user melakukan perintah melalui suara. Permukaan multi-touch memungkinkan interaksi dengan tangan dan fingertips pada permukaan yang sensitif terhadap sentuhan, memungkinkan kita memanipulasi objek secara digital seolah-olah seperti secara fisik.
Antarmuka yang nyata juga telah dibangun, dimana setiap objek fisik di-embed dengan komputasi, dapat merasakan dan memberikan reaksi ketika objek tersebut diambil, dimanipulasi, dan dipindahkan.
Pendekatan ini sudah ditemukan pada boneka dan sistem permainan seperti Nintendo Wii. Sekarang kita juga dapat melihat adanya antarmuka otak-komputer. Dengan demikian, seseorang yang memiliki keterbatasan fisik dapat menggunakan gelombak otak-nya untuk berinteraksi dengan lingkungannya. Banyak perubahan yang terjadi pada manusia dalam hubungannya dengan komputer.

4. Masalah Interaksi dan Desain

Teknologi, manusia, dan masyarakat berubah. IMK perlu memperluas metode dan pendekatan-nya untuk fokus dengan jelas terhadap nilai manusia. Hal ini memerlukan pandangan yang lebih sensitif terhadap peran, fungsi, dan konsekuensi dari desain.

Pada 2020, hubungan masyarakat dengan teknologi akan cukup berbeda daripada sekedar menjadi pengguna komputer. Pola pikir yang cukup berbeda diperlukan untuk mendesain, mengontrol, dan berinteraksi dengan ekosistem teknologi. IMK perlu memahami dan menganalisis permasalahan yang sedang berkembang luas, khususnya nilai manusia, termasuk aspek domain baru. Contohnya yaitu dalam mendesain peralatan komunikasi mobile yang membuat visible pemiliknya terhadap orang lain di sekitarnya. Orang lain dapat secara permanen melacak, merekam, dan melihat apa yang telah dilakukan seseorang tadi terhadap device mereka.

Apa yang akan dibuat visible dan apa yang akan disembunyikan pada sebuah interface, bagaimana mengakses dan merepresentasikan ke orang lain, akan dipengaruhi oleh berbagai pengaruh, yang pada gilirannya, sikap, norma, dan praktik sosial yang dipertimbangkan secara etis dan dapat diterima.

Ada 5 transformasi utama yang secara dramatis mempengaruhi bagaimana kita berinteraksi dengan teknologi komputasi ketika kita beralih ke 2020, mulai dari bagaimana kita memahami dan mendesain interaksi, sampai pada pengaruhnya terhadap masyarakat. Perubahan yang terjadi terhadap komputer, kehidupan seseorang, dan masyarakat dapat dipandang sebagai contoh dari lima transformasi yang mengubah hubungan kita dengan komputer.

Transformasi yang pertama adalah komputasi dengan antarmuka tunggal tidak lama lagi akan memiliki beberapa antarmuka yang berbeda. Beberapa antarmuka dibuat oleh computer encroaching pada personal space, pun menempel pada tubuh kita. Tranformasi pertama disebut sebagai the end of interface stability. Kita perlu untuk memahami dan mendesain interaksi dimana gagasan suatu interface tidak mudah lagi didefinisikan, stabil, atau ditetapkan.

Pergeseran Batasan antara Komputer dan Manusia

Dalam transformasi ini dibicarakan tentang bagaimana nilai-nilai manusia mempengaruhi batasan-batasan antarmuka. Misalnya, peralatan medis yang diletakkan di dekat kita atau bahkan ditanam pada tubuh kita. Namun, apa pengaruhnya terhadap identitas pemakainya ? Apakah komputer yang ditanam pada tubuh kita merupakan bagian dari identitas tersebut ? Demikian juga, jika batasan antara kita dan peralatan tersebut tidak terlihat, sepenting apakah kita harus mengatur dan mengontrol batasan tersebut ? Hal-hal tersebut merupakan permasalahan yang harus dihadapi di masa yang akan datang.

Masalah untuk interaksi dan desain :

a) Bagaimana kita akan tahu sumber komputasi apa yang tersedia di dalam tubuh kita dan bagaimana interaksinya terhadap sekitar kita ?

b) Teknik interaksi apa yang sesuai jika peralatan yang ditanam tidak memiliki antarmuka yang jelas dan dikenal ?

c) Apakah konsep lama antarmuka menjadi usang dan tidak relevan di masa yang akan datang ?

Masalah terhadap pengaruh yang lebih luas :

a) Apakah peralatan bio-sensing dapat diterima jika tubuh mengalami sakit parah ?

b) Apakah fungsi tubuh manusia dapat dimonitor tanpa kesadaran dan ijin dari fungsi tersebut ?

c) Bagaimana kita mengakses dan mengontrol informasi dari peralatan yang ditanam ?

Pergeseran batasan antara komputer dan aktivitas sehari-hari

Sama halnya antarmuka antara manusia dan komputer secara cepat mengubah dan juga menjadi batas antara teknologi komputasi dan objek-objek dan permukaan pada dunia sehari-hari. Di masa depan, sebuah komputer semakin mungkin ditanam pada furniture, ruangan, mobil, pintu, dan pakaian.

Masalah untuk interaksi dan desain :

a) Bagaimana teknik interaksi baru digabungkan dengan kemampuan yang sebelumnya ada ?

b) Menyentuh dan berjalan merupakan suatu interaksi, lalu bagaimana kita tahu dan bagaimana kita mengontrol interaksi tersebut ?

c) Seberapa bergunakah definisi konvensional dari “use” dan “users” ?

Masalah terhadap pengaruh yang lebih luas :

a) Seberapa diterimakah interaksi tidak langsung terhadap masyarakat ? Misalnya, apakah dapat diterima jika layanan interaktif yang invisible disediakan di WC umum, pantai, atau di hutan belantara ?

b) Apakah kebutuhan manusia selalu tersedia dengan sebuah indikasi bahwa mereka telah memulai interaksi ?

c) Apakah manusia dapat memilih dunia interaktif yang terhubung dengan jumlah yang lebih banyak ?

Kedua, perubahan bagaimana kita hidup dan menggunakan teknologi menjadikan kita lebih bergantung pada komputasi. Transformasi ini disebut the growth of techno-dependency.

Semakin kita bergantung pada teknologi untuk menjalankan aktivitas kita sehari-hari, maka kita harus semakin mempercayai teknologi tersebut untuk melakukannya.

Masalah untuk interaksi dan desain :

a) Apakah akan ada harapan terhadap teknologi yang lebih baik dan lebih cepat dan apa maknanya terhadap teknologi baru yang kita desain?

b) Apa akibat dari teknologi pada 2020 dan bagaimana akibat tersebut mengubah keahlian dan pemahaman dari generasi selanjutnya ?

c) Bagaimana kita mendesain teknologi untuk membantu manusia mengatasi dunia yang terus bergantung terhadap teknologi ketika infrastuktur mengalami kegagalan, malfunction, atau hilang ?

Masalah terhadap pengaruh yang lebih luas :

a) Jika kemampuan menghitung telah diganti dengan kehadiran kalkulator, keahlian lain yang manakah yang akan menjadi usang ? Apakah masyarakat memperhatikan hal ini ?

b) Apakah teknologi dapat disalahkan atas kecelakaan dan bencana ataukah desainer dan developer yang bertanggung jawab ?

c) Jika masyarakat berkembang bergantung pada teknologi dan interaksi menyokong ketergantungan tersebut, siapa yang bertanggung jawab ?

Ketiga, teknologi komunikasi tidak hanya sekedar mudah dan cepat, seperti mengirim email daripada menulis surat. Tetapi bagaimana agar seseorang bisa lebih dekat dengan orang lain. Transformasi ini disebut the growth of hyper-connectivity.

Pada saat ini, kita berkomunikasi dengan teman dan keluarga dalam jarak yang lebih luas dan waktu yang lebih lama, daripada sebelumnya. Sekarang kita dapat berkomunikasi dengan mereka di mana saja dan kapan saja. Hyper-connectivity meningkatkan permasalahan dasar tentang pemahaman dan pendesainan interaksi.

Masalah untuk interaksi dan desain :

a) Bagaimana teknologi dapat membantu kita untuk mengatur bahwa kita “available” terhadap orang lain ?

b) Bagaimana seharusnya teknologi dan layanan baru didesain untuk memenuhi etika ?

c) Bagaimana teknologi komunikasi baru didesain agar orang dapat yakin bahwa orang lain yang dihubunginya adalah orang yang sebenarnya dan bagaimana caranya ?

Masalah terhadap pengaruh yang lebih luas :

a) Struktur sosial yang seperti apa yang sesuai dan yang dibutuhkan untuk membantu kehidupan manusia ?

b) Apa pengaruhnya terhadap kehidupan sosial yang luas ?

c) Bagaimana seharusnya kita mengatur masyarakat yang terhubung agar saling menguntungkan tanpa penyalahgunaan teknologi ?

Keempat, Keinginan kita untuk menyimpan banyak informasi tentang kehidupan dan apa yang kita kerjakan (personal, pemerintah, institusi) yang didukung kapasitas teknologi yang menyediakan ruang penyimpanan data yang lebih. Disebut the end of the ephemeral.

Tinggal di dunia yang pemonitorannya terus meningkat

Masalah untuk interaksi dan desain :

a) Bagaimana teknologi monitoring didesain untuk memberikan feedback dan kontrol terhadap apa yang diamati ?

b) Apakah manusia dapat memilih untuk dimonitor dan bagaimana kita mendesain teknologi untuk melakukannya ?

c) Bagaimana informasi dan kebutuhan yang bersifat privasi dapat diseimbangkan melalui desain ?

Masalah terhadap pengaruh yang lebih luas :

a) Panduan etis apa yang diperlukan untuk mengatur informasi yang dimonitor dan bagaimana panduan tersebut di-review dan diimplementasikan ?

b) Tanggung jawab siapa untuk memastikan bahwa sistem monitoring didesain untuk menyeimbangkan hak setiap individu dalam masyarakatnya ?

c) Bagaimana kita memastikan bahwa pemonitoran aktivitas dapat mengubah perilaku kelompok sosial yang lebih baik ?

Kelima, perkembangan pesat menyebabkan lahirnya berbagai jenis peralatan digital yang diperuntukkan dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan dan untuk siapa saja, telah mempengaruhi kita, membuat kita dapat bekerja, bermain, dan berekspresi melalui berbagai cara yang baru. Disebut the growth of creative engagement.

Masalah untuk interaksi dan desain :

a) Apakah otomatisasi lebih lanjut meneruskan pemikiran manusia dan penyelesaian permasalahan ?

b) Bagaimana interaksi dan desain peralatan komputasional yang baru terstruktur sehingga peralatan tersebut tidak menghalangi kreativitas ?

c) Toolkit baru apa yang dapat dikembangkan untuk pengetahuan dan lainnya untuk membuat tool sendiri, untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan sendiri, dan menjelajahi kesempatan baru ?

Masalah terhadap pengaruh yang lebih luas :

a) Apa arti tool baru tersebut bagi keahlian alami di masa depan ?

b) Apakah ilmuwan menjadi terlalu bergantung pada tool ?

c) Apakah tool berbasis komputer pada akhirnya menjadi kompleks sehingga tidak lama lagi tool tersebut tidak dapat dipahami oleh orang yang mengembangkannya ?

Setiap transformasi mempengaruhi cara kita memandang interaksi dan desain. “Being Human” dalam hubungan kita dengan teknologi berarti bahwa kita perlu mengedepankan dan memiliki pemahaman yang lebih baik mengenai nilai-nilai manusia dan menjadikan nilai-nilai tersebut inti dari bagaimana kita memahami dan mendesain.

5. Desain dan Penelitian yang user-centred

Desain dan penelitian secara khas mengikuti iterative cycle, terdiri dari empat proses dasar yang kita pelajari, desain, bangun dan mengevaluasi teknologi. Perkembangan terhadap model desain IMK tersebut kemudian diperluas yaitu dengan menambah suatu stage yang disebut dengan “understand” yang memerlukan analisis konseptual. Sekarang, tujuan khusus penelitian IMK adalah mendesain dan mendesain ulang teknologi komputasi khusus (produk, layanan, aplikasi, atau sistem) untuk meningkatkan pengalaman (misal, shopping online) atau untuk membuat pengalaman yang cukup berbeda dengan sebelumnya.

Pendekatan yang diperluas terhadap penelitian dan desain IMK adalah ditujukan untuk membolehkan nilai-nilai manusia dimasukkan ke dalam semua stage. Cycle, pada IMK, dapat dimulai dari titik manapun, dan biasanya beriterasi dalam bagian penelitian atau perancangan.

Understand

a) Menyediakan framework untuk memandu perancangan dan penelitian.

b) Berfokus pada nilai-nilai manusia dan untuk menunjuk dengan tepat nilai-nilai tersebut yang kita harapkan untuk mendesain dan meneliti.

c) Membutuhkan gagasan yang bersifat reflektif dan penggambaran analisis konseptual pada disiplin yang lain (filosofi, psikologi, seni, teori sastra, kebudayaan, antropologi, sosiologi, dan desain).

d) Stakeholder dan user terlibat dalam pengembangan dan perancangan teknologi untuk mengetahui jenis nilai apa yang stakeholder percaya dapat diperoleh oleh user dari teknologi yang dibuat, dan tipe user seperti apa dan domain aktivitas apa yang diperhatikan.

e) Hasilnya adalah pilihan (user, domain aktivitas, lingkungan atau budaya) yang harus ditentukan. Hasil ini akan menunjukkan penelitian dasar yang akan di bawa ke stage 2 (Study).

Study

a) Menyempurnakan detil tentang bagaimana individu dan kelompok sosial mencapai tujuannya.

b) Terdiri dari pengembangan pemahaman tentang faktor-faktor yang berperan dalam bagaimana nilai yang diutamakan termanifestasi di kehidupan sehari-hari.

c) Berbeda dengan proyek IMK biasa yang hanya memperhatikan interaksi invidual atau sekumpulan task atau praktik, extended study lebih luas. Extended study dimulai dengan memperhatikan rincian task dan praktik, yang kemudian bagaimana mekanisme interaksi tersebut membantu manusia mencapai nilai yang bertahan lama dan melebihi interaksi.

Design

a) Merupakan fase perancangan dan kreatif. Pada fase ini tujuan perancangan harus terlihat.

b) Tujuan perancangan adalah untuk lebih mendalami pemahaman terhadap sekumpulan nilai, sekelompok orang, atau domain.

Build

a) Tahap ini melibatkan apapun dari metode dengan teknologi rendah (misal, paper prototypes dan sketches) ke sistem dengan teknologi yang lebih tinggi dan kuat untuk pengujian jangka panjang.

b) Banyak pembangunan dalam IMK berbasis perangkat lunak, memerlukan pengembangan antarmuka untuk suatu device desktop atau mobile. Pada 2020, pembangunan dalam IMK akan lebih hybrid.

c) Membutuhkan pengembangan antarmuka perangkat lunak ditambah campuran baru dari perangkat keras.

d) Tujuan dari tahap ini adalah membangun sesuatu, dengan cara/mode apapun.

Evaluate

a) Melibatkan evaluasi terhadap apa yang telah dibangun.

b) Kerja desain hanya merepresentasikan tebakan terbaik tentang jenis solusi apa yang dapat mencapai tujuan penelitian dan desain. Tahap ini bertujuan untuk menguji tebakan terbaik tersebut.

c) Metodologi IMK yang sudah ada dapat digunakan.

d) Tujuan selanjutnya dari tahap ini adalah mengidentifikasikan (oleh peneliti IMK) keahlian apa di luar domain (domain peneliti IMK) yang dibutuhkan.

6. Kesimpulan

Perkembangan teknologi dapat menyebabkan manusia semakin bergantung dengan teknologi tersebut memudahkan user (manusia) untuk memanfaatkannya. Akan tetapi, perlu diperhatikan juga nilai-nilai dasar manusia agar dipertahankan, sehingga bukan sistem yang mengatur user, tetapi user yang mengatur sistem.

Desde que en 1994 empecé a trabajar en este sector de las relaciones con la prensa, he visto crecer a un ritmo muy bajo las relaciones entre agencias de comunicación, empresas clientes y periodistas. Los mismos errores, a mi entender muy obvios, han hecho que ninguno de los tres colectivos sepamos entender a los otros. En mi opinión, el principal ‘pecado’ de las agencias de comunicación ha sido aliarse más con sus clientes que con los periodistas de los medios a los que dirigimos las noticias. Creo que muchas veces nos preocupa más tener satisfecho al director de marketing de turno, aun a sabiendas de que lo que nos pide que comuniquemos no es ni será noticia, que crear historias que a los medios les parezcan realmente interesantes.

En esa perversa dinámica, el cliente dice que la noticia es "equis", la agencia asiente sin cuestionarlo, lo transmite a los medios y éstos no lo publican porque saben que "equis" no es noticia. Pero aun así, todos contentos: el cliente siente que manda y dirige a su agencia, y la agencia, que ha hecho el trabajo que el cliente le pide. Sí, el periodista más exigente no publica, pero eso se tapa estupendamente con algunos medios adocenados que sí publican y con un informe maravilloso en powerpoint en el que la agencia le explica a su cliente todo el trabajo que ha hecho acerca de dicha noticia.

Como es obvio, y aunque también me he visto alguna vez inmerso en esta dinámica absurda, yo defiendo el camino contrario: que la agencia le diga con rotundidad al cliente que “equis” no es noticia y que su opinión es que, para que su empresa sea noticia, hay que contarles a los medios “equis” con otro enfoque completamente distinto, o darles la noticia “y griega”. Y por ahí se suele llegar a que el cliente asume que la agencia es una empresa consultora experta en lo suyo, y que gracias a su negativa razonada a dar la noticia “equis”, todos triunfan: el periodista recibe con agrado la noticia que sí tiene interés para su audiencia, la empresa cliente ve que su noticia se publica con mucho éxito en todos los medios, y la agencia es valorada por su cliente y no tiene que inventar informes posteriores que escondan un mal resultado de la acción realizada.

2020, o cómo las agencias de comunicación se convierten en medios
Para imaginar cómo serán las cosas en 2020, nos ayudará ver cómo las vemos en Goodwill en 2008. Dado que no creemos en esa forma antigua de hacer comunicación, hace tiempo que establecimos otros sistemas de trabajo que generen de verdad valor para nuestros clientes.

En 2001 fuimos la primera agencia de comunicación de España que creó una herramienta que, a través de internet, nos permite gestionar nuestras relaciones con los medios de comunicación. En lugar de recibir emails de 8Mb con una foto en alta resolución que les colapsa el buzón, los periodistas reciben de Goodwill emails de 15kbs con la noticia en html con varias imágenes de pantalla que, con un clic, se descargan en segundos en alta resolución. El sistema tiene también una parte pública (www.goodwill.es), a la cual los medios acceden (cada mes entran 7.000 y se descargan más de 10.000 fotos, según la medición de Nielsen Online).

Se trata de facilitarles la vida a los medios, a quienes debemos el mismo respeto e interés que a nuestros clientes. Por eso, en 2008 hemos vuelto a innovar y nos adaptamos a las necesidades actuales creando nuevos formatos periodísticos. Si la tribuna de opinión es un formato muerto porque sólo le suele interesar –salvo excepciones- a su autor y, en algunos casos, a su familia más cercana, en el mundo actual han nacido formatos que ni imaginábamos hasta hace poco.

Todos tenemos que cruzar líneas para ser más transversales
¿Se imaginaban las televisiones que su competidor más inesperado serían los periódicos? Sí, sí, los periódicos. Pues hoy lo son: las versiones online de los periódicos han dado un salto al mundo televisivo y hoy, lo más consultado de sus webs no son noticias de texto, sino de vídeo. Los internautas se aburren leyendo una noticia de 6 párrafos y prefieren ver un vídeo de minuto y medio en el que le cuenten lo mismo pero de forma mucho más directa y dinámica.

Sin embargo, los medios online –incluyendo los grandes periódicos- tienen serias dificultades para producir esos vídeos, que son lo más demandado por su audiencia. Así como es barato y fácil poner a un periodista a escribir noticias que se publiquen en la web, crear una sola noticia en vídeo de 2 minutos exige de 6 a 8 horas de trabajo de un equipo compuesto por 2 ó 3 personas, y mucha inversión tecnológica.

Para poner nuestro granito de arena, en Goodwill hemos decidido no conformarnos con enviar a los medios aburridas notas de prensa que ellos tienen que transformar para convertir en noticia. Así, acabamos de lanzar las videonoticias y las radionoticias. Las videonoticias son piezas televisivas en las que, con un enfoque muy periodístico, lanzamos noticias de nuestros clientes que los medios online pueden colgar tal cual, y que las propias televisiones pueden utilizar en alta resolución.

Las radionoticias parten de la misma filosofía: solucionar la necesidad del periodista y darles el material ya elaborado en su propio formato. Cuando una radio se interesa por algo que hemos lanzado, gestionar una entrevista entre el periodista de radio y nuestro cliente exige coordinar la agenda del periodista, la del cliente y la del estudio de la radio en donde se pueda grabar dicha conversación. Ahora somos nosotros quienes grabamos a nuestro cliente y ofrecemos a las radios directamente la noticia en formato audio de alta calidad, que emiten directamente en su emisora. ¿Que eso era en realidad labor de las propias emisoras? Pues puede que sí, pero siendo audaces e introduciéndonos un poco más en su necesidad, conseguimos darles el trabajo ya hecho. Los medios nos lo agradecen y nuestros clientes consiguen mucha más repercusión.

Videonoticias y radionoticias son sólo un ejemplo de lo que creemos que debe ser adelantarnos a los tiempos. En 2020 seguirá sucediendo lo mismo: procuraremos correr al encuentro de lo que los medios demanden. El vídeo seguirá vivo y será en directo, y los lectores e internautas seguirán ganando poder y serán cada vez más dueños de los medios, como ya ha sucedido con la llegada de internet 2.0. En 2020, habrá casi tantos medios de comunicación como personas capaces de lanzar sus ideas. ¿Estaremos nosotros entonces preparados para saber llegar a una audiencia cada vez más fragmentada? Espero al menos seguir aprendiendo para poderme subir a ese futuro tren de la información…

Also, as a visual person, I sometimes find computer pages confusing.  There's way too much information to take in, and it is often times not well-organized.  Or maybe it's just not organized in a way that my mind finds logical.  I can't tell you how many times I've looked and looked for the thing to click on only to have one of my offspring sigh and point it out with "Could it be more obvious, Mother?"  Well, yes, it could! 

I attended a Vision 2020 meeting today  and found an interesting array of people there.  We had the young technophile, who was envisioning a library where hundreds of computers would need only a small area as they would be the size of, say, a pocket watch.  At the same meeting we had a seasoned librarian who adamantly repeated that librarians have custody of the world's intellectual property no matter what changes technologically.    Some insisted that the Library can't be all things to all people, then praised the free lunch program and wished to expand it.  I'd like to see the Library become the social center of the city, the place where technology and personal contact meld and involve all ages in all areas of the city.   Hmm.  Maybe a swimming pool and some movie stars could be included?  At any rate, lots of interesting ideas were thrown around, no one got beaten with sticks, and I finally met Patrick Losinski after working for CML for 2 years!  Good Times.

Fortunately, I didn't give up on exercise. In fact, this part of my program only increased. I'm doing cardio 5+ times a week, and am building muscle mass at a healthy pace (starting to get kind of buff).

I weighed in at 250 yesterday. I think my lowest (unofficial) weight was 239. A difference of 11 pounds gained. Fortunately, as I discovered today, 4 of those 250 pounds were water weight (I was 246 today), probably retained from all the drinking I did in Vegas. However, now that I am home for a long stretch (barring any work related trips), I want to focus on reaching my original goal weight of 230, then set that as a new level of maintenance for a while, before deciding if I want to lose more weight.

I started back on my 1500-1700 daily calorie intake, and even easily avoided the late night munchies, which I've become accustomed to enjoying over the last several weeks.

My goal is to hit the 230 mark within 2 months. I think this is doable if I stick to the program. I'll track my progress weekly here.

The entire hour of 20/20 will be hosted by Elizabeth Vargas and was produced by two Professors from the University of Memphis.

In the novel our protagonist goes by the name of Ben Turnbull, a retired finance expert who now haunts his home in the country as his wife obsesses with the garden, her social circles, and a gift shop she helps run.  The year is 2020, and a war with the Chinese has all but obliterated the United States as we currently know it.  However, New England has been little affected and so life is fairly normal. 

Perhaps that is Updike's most astonishing talent.  Amongst all the mundane aspects of his tale, he'll sometimes throw in facts about the war, or briefly mention a new life form that has emerged as a result of the war, or slip into metaphysical dissertations about all aspects of science that will virtually boggle your mind.  Along with that, at times Ben, our narrator, will slip into . . . something . . . where he is someone totally different living in ancient Egypt or soon after the death of Christ.  Perhaps just as flummoxing is the disappearance and reemergence of major characters with little to no explanation.

Amidst all this, however, exist the story of a man aging, a man who feels useless to his wife and to himself more and more with each passing day.  He is a man still hot with passion for life and for love, but he finds fulfillment for these passions in the most unusual and sometimes immoral of places.

While this novel presented itself as a constant frustration, one cannot ignore the sheer talent Updike has at imagery.  Ben's wife's garden is described in the utmost detail, and there are many, many metaphors as the garden is constantly torn asunder and the local wildlife exterminated in favor of the garden's survival for Ben's slow but sure demise and for his strained relationship with his wife.

If you are a fan of Updike and want to explore more of his interesting styles and techniques, you would probably enjoy this work very much.  However, if you are a casual reader looking for a new book, I don't think you would enjoy this particular work.

IBM has just completed a report entitle "Automotive 2020: Clarity beyond the chaos." The report details the widespread changes the automotive industry is expected to go through during the next twelve years, and how automakers can position themselves for success. Along with the sophistication of the consumer and the need to reach for expertise outside the industry, the report also goes into the progress of the intelligent vehicle:

The vehicle of 2020 will be a communications wonder. As another node on the Internet, it will connect with other vehicles (V2V connectivity), the transportation infrastructure (V2I) and to homes, businesses and other sources (V2x).

Road detection, self-repair, speech recognition, traffic regulation, age-focused assistance, autonomous parking, route optimization and more are explored as the researchers focus on safety, driver assistance, and service. They estimate that by 2020 all vehicles will have some level of connectivity, however the rate of progress depends a lot on the adoption of industry-wide standards. They ultimately predict that although we will not see a fully autonomous vehicle by 2020, we will be well on our way to achieving that vision.

20&20, preso come spunto dal nome del festival, è stata condotta nell'intento di creare una rete multilayer dell'arte contemporanea tra la periferia di Roma e la Sabina. Ma per arrivare a questo vi è stato bisogno di un lungo lavoro preliminare. Infatti la prima fase di 20&20 è consistita nel chiedere a 20 abitanti di Ladispoli di donare un oggetto qualsiasi ad altrettanti abitanti di Bocchignano e Poggio Moiano, i quali faranno lo stesso con i loro estemporanei filantropi. Il dono, ricevuto da entrambi le parti alle 20.20 del 12 Maggio, è rimasto anonimo fino alla seconda fase della performance, così come il donatore non conosce il destinatario. Una volta ricevuto l'oggetto, ai partecipanti della performance è stato dato tempo fino al 25 Maggio, data della seconda fade della performance e quindi di chiusura del festival 20 eventi in Sabina, per reinterpretare, manomettere, smontare e/o rimontare l'artefatto ricevuto tredici giorni prima. Così, senza andare a banalizzare sull'atto di rendere artista l'uomo comune, lo scambio, la riscrittura e la successiva esposizione dell'opera divento il pretesto per intessere una fitta rete di relazioni tra le due aree al fine di eludere il centralismo delle istituzioni dell'arte contemporanea. Supporto al tutto è stata una connessione internet che ha permesso ai partecipanti di poter conoscere il performer a lui attribuito, in modo da mostrare reciprocamente l'elaborazione dei doni.
A cascata nascono nuovi dubbi sullo statuto con cui si debba sigillare l'arte contemporanea, nel momento in cui essa va a lavorare con il tessuto sociale che si ha a disposizione. Niente di più sbagliato del pensare che EmErgEnzE in 20&20 si sia interessata a scopi didattici, dando la possibilità di creare qualcosa di creativo, nonostante ci siano stati esempi di produzioni notevoli. Il riportare il globale al locale, la messa in rete di diverse realtà, il voler ibridare un gesto antico come il dono con le tecnologie informatiche era il vero intento. Questi erano gli obiettivi prefissati, e nonostante le difficoltà, queste reti e queste ibridazioni si sono formate.

For starters, I am not sure every vehicle will be a hybrid in 12 years time, because this hybrid talk itself has been around for more than 20 years now.

There's this talk about OPEC being such a powerful lobby that any alternative energy source is snuffed out before it makes its presence felt. Not sure how true that is, but I think this whole thing about fossil fuels not lasting forever is a myth that can be used by OPEC to jack up the price of fuel and nothing more.

Innovation is the key to the future. And relying on just one thing isn't going to get us very far. So innovate, and give us an alternative energy source that's great for mileage, distances, security and environment. I am waiting.
